About Christen

Christen GowanWelcome! I’m Christen Gowan, and I’m a wife and a mom to two little girls. We live in upstate New York and I work full-time in higher education communications.

Since I was little, I’ve always loved to cook and bake with my family. Even though life can be pretty hectic, I love to take the time to cook for family and friends. I want to show you that making delicious, wholesome food can be simple and quite easy. I love everything from Brussel sprouts to birthday cakes so I’ll be giving you a little bit of everything!

Follow along with me as I test out some new recipes and show you some tried-and-true family favorites. I can be contacted at ChristenRGowan (at) gmail (dot) com

Here are 10 things you might not know about me:

1. I’ve baked at least 50 different kinds of chocolate chip cookies.

2. I won the pie baking competition at the Saratoga County Fair. (I was working as a reporter at the time, and the editor wanted me to participate in the fair in some way and write about it. I ended up winning with my mom’s apple pie recipe)

3. I’m obsessed with beauty products. I have a closet full of them and Birchbox sends me more every month.

4. My favorite way to de-stress is by going to a Spinning class. It’s great to just zone out and get lost in the music.

5. If I could live anywhere, it would be at the beach in North Carolina. Life just seems so much easier there.

6. A trip through Italy is on my bucket list. (The girls will probably have to stay with their grandparents for that one.)

7. My goal in life is to own a bunch of dogs and have backyard chickens. Once you have really fresh eggs, there’s no going back.

8. My pantry staples are some frozen pesto, a box of pasta and some parmesan cheese in the fridge. That way we always have dinner.

9. One of my favorite things about my kids’ birthdays is making their cakes. It brings me to the edge of my sanity, but I’m always glad I did it in the end.

10. My goal every year is to try to do more day trips with the family. We live so close to so many great things – like cute towns in Vermont and the Adirondacks. (I’m still working on this one)
